17-hour video installation, 2016
Opening ceremony of Dresden Music Festival
A video installation by Georg Pelzer will be shown in conjunction with the performance of Eric Satie’s “Vexations”. In “Slices”, the viewer can take a fascinating look at the public life of a fictional city for seventeen hours. The documentarily recorded images play with time and its perception. A moment is split up into countless individual images, a scene is extended from a few seconds to several minutes. By rectifying the moving image into individual “time slices”, otherwise invisible intermediate moments are brought into focus as independent works. In this way Georg Pelzer has created 60,000 individual images, none of which are repeated – a contrast to the repetitive flow of the “Vexations”.
